Ardagh Brownies: Will be doing a skipathon in Thursday’s meeting, please can all Brownies bring a skipping rope to the meeting. Good luck to the Quiz team heading to Dublin on Saturday for the Irish Girl Guides Brownie Quiz National Final! Ardagh Guides had fun camping in between the showers last weekend at Portlick camp site, kayaking, crate stacking, zip-lining, assault course and archery. Well done, Aoife, Nora-May, Sarah, Olivia, Morgane, Karen and Shannon! Ardagh Toddler Group meet every Tuesday morning for a cuppa and a chat - all are welcome drop in to the Community Centre anytime between 10 and 12.

Rathowen Community Development AGM: On Thursday 16th of May the AGM for Rathowen Community Development will be held, all directors will be in attendance and the community are very welcome to come and get a full report on the years finance and on the work done by the directors.  New members are very welcome. CLONGUISH COMMUNITY GAMES: Athletics at GAA pitch, Thursday 16th May, 6pm.  All children from the parish welcome to compete. Also, nominations for Clonguish Hall of Fame community games volunteer over the past 40 years invited - ballot boxes in Smiths, Bells, Caseys and McGowans. STRABERRY FIELDS FOREVER: The Lord of the harvest came to take to his great vineyard in the sky his good and faithful servant Peter Kiernan, Ballyduffy, aged 90 years on Thursday May 2nd last.  Peter’s good and gentle spirit and love of nature made him into a skilled son of the soil, which yielded him rewards that few could achieve. On his farm in Ballyduffy he was very enterprising and hard -working producing quality pigs and cattle for the local markets. A well -read man Peter was very aware of farming trends and he did not put all his eggs in one basket and became a skilled producer fruit crops such as strawberries and raspberries, which were put in barrels and supplied to the local Jam maker Lairds in Drumshambo. The harvesting period had to be completed when the fruit was at ripest, which was a three weeks window of intensive back breaking activity. Many young people in the area could rely on Peter for employment at this this crucial time to gather money for treating themselves or going to dances or discos. Apart from picking fruit Peter was very wise in picking his wife to be Brigid also known as Sissy from Crott, whom he married in 1956. Together they made a great team together and shared similar interests of listening to Irish Music on the radio and were devout mass goers. Thankfully Peter enjoyed great physical health and was blessed with great mental alertness right up to the end. His tranquil side was evident in his great love of fishing every Sunday at McNaboe’s Shore and Drumury Lake. There he also showed his great temperament and powers of patient concentration. At other times he liked hunting with greyhounds. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Moyne on Saturday May 4th last, by Rev. Fr. Eamon Corkery. The ceremony was greatly adorned by music and hymmes provided by members of the local Dromard Choir as well as a very special offertory musical rendition of a beautiful O Carrolan hymme by his granddaughter Fionna. Peter who lived a quiet life was waked at his family home and was greatly honoured with very large attendances at all services. Predeceased by his brother John, sisters; Mary Kate and Janie. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Sissy, son Eamon, daughter-in-law Mary, sister Debra Higgins, Carrigallen, grand -children; Fionna, Eamon, Connor and Brian, relatives neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.

Longford Volunteer Week – May, 13th. – 17th: As part of Volunteer Week the centre is looking for volunteers to take part in our Community Garden make over on Thursday, May 16th.  Starting at 10 am until 1 pm and finishing with refreshments. Students, women and men of all ages welcome. Without volunteers our centre would be a lot poorer. We appreciate every hour of your time! Just come along to reception on the morning and choose your task.

Please note: As of this week I will be taking over the Dromard notes from Willie Healy for a trial period.  Therefore the Colmcille and Dromard notes will be combined into the North Longford Notes as was in the past. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Willie Healy for his dedication to providing highly informative and interesting notes for the area over the last number of years and to wish him the best as he takes a well deserved break. First Holy Communion: On Saturday next the 18th May pupils from St Sinneachs National School Colehill will receive their First Holy Communion in Carrickedmond church at 11am.  This special day will be celebrated by Fr Tiernan PP. We all hope that this special day for each boy and girl receiving their first holy communion will be a one that will be remembered by each one in the years to come. We all pray also the weather will be kind on Saturday next.

Sports: The annual Community Games sports will be held on Monday evening 20th May at 5pm at St Brigid’s football grounds.  Competitions will be for boys and girls up to u-16 in track and field events and athletics. Qualifiers will take part in the county final in Ballymahon on 9th June.

Gathering Meeting: A meeting of the Gathering committee will take place on Tuesday night next 21st May in Adie Farrell’s meeting room.  There are many logistic decisions in relation to the Gathering Weekend on August Bank Holiday weekend to be made and we would like to ask a large representation from the community to come along and be part of a great weekend.

Thank you: The Parents Association of Lenamore National School would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in running our Car Boot Sale recently.  A grateful thanks to Legan GAA who provided us with their grounds and Clubhouse, to ICA members who baked all the goodies and especially to all the parents who organised the fundraiser and participated on the day. Division 1 v Gortletteragh: Annaduff were beaten 2-5 to 1-7 by Gortletteragh in Gortletteragh on Saturday.  Niall Maxwell put Annaduff level when he scored a superb goal with two minutes remaining however Gortletteragh got the winning point in injury time.
